We are fundraising for two key projects in the Holy Land: The Terra Sancta Museum and The Magnificat Institute of Music.
The Terra Sancta Museum
The Franciscans of the Holy Land Custody, together with the Association Pro Terra Sancta and the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum, have been working for several years to create the Terra Sancta Museum. It is the world’s first museum focused on the beginnings of Christianity and the protection of the Holy Places.
The museum is located in the centre of Jerusalem’s Old City, a historic meeting point for many peoples and religions. This mix of cultures is also reflected in the Terra Sancta Museum, which shares the story of Christians in the Holy Land through rare archaeological pieces and works of art. The museum is divided into three main sections: a multimedia area (opened in February 2016), an archaeological collection and a historical gallery. Together, these areas help explain the long and rich history of Christians in the Holy Land.
The Magnificat Institute of Music
The Magnificat Institute of Music, located in the Old City of Jerusalem, offers high-quality music education to local people of all genders, races, languages and religions. It provides music classes for all ages — from young children to adults — helping students learn about music history, theory, instruments, singing and performing in both classical and modern styles.
Many young people in Jerusalem’s Old City live in difficult conditions. School dropout rates are high, and some youth end up involved in drugs and organised crime. These problems are made worse by the city’s religious diversity, which can create tension and competition.
To help address this, the Custody friars started the Magnificat music school in 1995. The school welcomes children and young adults from all faiths. Muslims, Jews and Christians learn and grow together in an environment where music helps build cultural understanding.
PTSUK supports this mission by running campaigns to fund training, buy equipment and organise musical events in the Holy Land. These events aim to bring local communities together, without discrimination based on race, culture or religion.
